Apprio Employees Support English Learner’s Back to School Fair

August 2019—Backpacks and back to school go together and represent a new start to the school year and learning.

To this end, Apprio employees stuffed backpacks in support of the District of Columbia Public Schools’ (DCPS) English Learner’s Back to School Fair. With backpacks ready for distribution, Apprio employees went to work at the fair which focused on English learner students and families in DC Public Schools.

The event was at MacFarland Middle School, and Apprio employees volunteered for set up, crowd control, helping families navigate through the event, distributing food and breaking down after the event. The event included workshops, legal consultations, immunizations, music, games and food. Dozens of local organizations were on hand with information and resources to help parents and students succeed.

And what about those stuffed backpacks? Each family attending the fair received a backpack with school supplies and helpful learning information. Families were able to gather more information at the fair about community resources and how to support their English learner students.

In addition to their time, Apprio employees contributed to the event by purchasing 100 backpacks and stuffing them with school supplies. This helps parents save money on purchasing school supplies and helps students by providing them with the necessary tools to aid in their learning and with their academic journey throughout the year.
